The Suitcase Bike, bike design, future bike

We've come far enough into the future that my mode of transportation. It's not just a concept! It is now in production and will be available sometime later this year.

The Suitcase Bike, bike design, future bike

A prototype of the bike was on display last week at the Canton Fair in China. From China comes this bike that can transform itself into a suitcase. This makes it much easier to transport around both walking and on the bus. There was some doubt whether this bike would actually be produced. The prices will probably be $399 USD.

Japanese artist Hayashi Shigeki takes ceramic art to the next level by applied traditional method to modern works of art.

“Hayashi Shigeki, from Tajimi City, draws inspiration for his ceramic figures from images from science fiction, animated film and Japanese comic books known as manga, all of which have attracted him since he was a child. He comes from a region of Japan famous for the production of porcelain domestic ware.” Via Keiko Gallery/Crazytoyz.

We love his work and cannot wait to see it live in the near future. Have a look at more works of Hayashi Shigeki after the jump.

Young dutch designer Patrick Schuur did the creative work by build a storage closet from old casette tapes. Who would have thought that? He used a total of 918 tapes to build a cassette tape closet. Each cassette tape is individually screwed onto a wooden frame.

It can be used for both an office space divider and storage closet. The closet has three doors which provide access to the huge storage space inside. It also features a mosaic tiles countertop! The Cassette Tape Closet is currently for sale on eBay, but we recommend creating your own as a DIY project. Dimensions are 275×57,5×136 cm.

Amsterdam-based designer Naomi Thellier de Poncheville's Hand-le, exhibited at the London Design Festival, would let you shake your door's hand to open it...or at least grab its hand and twist it.

Doors need persuasion too, sometimes.

Q Drum:Transport Water Easier

Posted by toxit at 5:47 AM 0 comments

The solution for transportig water with not to carrying it, but just rolling the water in a cylindrical container. It's the solution for rural people needs of clean and potable water.

The Q-drum is user friendly and the uniquue longitudinal shaft permits the drum to be pulled using a rope run through the hole. There are no removable or breakable handles or axles, and the rope can be repaired on the spot or replaced by means available everywhere, such as a leather thong or a rope woven from plant material.

With the Q-drum, even a child can pull 50 litres of water over flat terrain for several kilometres without undue strain, and could shift the burden of water collection away from adult women to children and reduce the existing burden on the children at the same time - they play with it and love to fetch water.
